Here’s what this site is all about.
You don’t need to be rich or know how to sail to buy a sailboat.
Have you ever asked yourself:
“Is it possible to buy a sailboat with less money than it takes to buy a 10-year-old car?”
“Can I really learn how to sail and maintain a boat?”
“Is there anyone who really wants to help me?”
“Where can I go to ask questions?”
If so, then you’ve come to the right place.
My name is Daryl Ramage, a small sailboat sailor from southern Manitoba, Canada. That’s right, a prairie province right smack in the middle of Canada, far from the sea.
I always thought the sailing life was unobtainable unless you were quite wealthy and started young. I was so wrong. In 2009 at 53 years old, knowing nothing about sailing or sailboats, I bought my first sailboat. It was a 1977 Sirius 21 swing keel, complete with a trailer for only $4,000.00!
I read everything about sailing that I could get my hands on and joined a local yacht club. I made 3-4 trips out of the marina out to the lake and back using only the motor and not putting up a sail. Then one day, Brian, a club member came out with me on a light wind day and we put up the sails.
The moment the wind first filled my sails I was completely hooked! It still thrills me every time.
You don't need to be rich to buy a sailboat ...
...but you'll feel like a millionaire when you do!
Cheers,
Daryl
We bought our sailboat in 2009.
